IP’s New Music Friday – February 5th, 2021

Welcome to another great week of Infinite Purple’s New Music Friday recap where we sift through this week’s released tracks to bring you the songs that stand out!

Read all the way through or make your way to the bottom for the full Spotify playlist of our Friday discoveries.

One More – SG Lewis (ft. Nile Rodgers)
SG Lewis is another kind of artist. He consistently puts out music that pushes the boundaries while retaining his signature funky, grooving sound. On “One More,” he teams up with funk/disco legend Niles Rodgers who adds his recognizable chucking on the guitar. This track is bound to get you bouncing on the dancefloor.

Recap – Kito (ft. VanJess & Channel Tres)
Starting out releasing music at Diplo’s Mad Decent label, Kito has been on a steady rise continuing to put out awesome tracks. On this track, Kito recruits R&B duo VanJess to sing some beautiful vocals while one of our favorites, Channel Tres, provides a fun and subtle verse with his classic sound.

SHELTER – VIC MENSA (ft. Wyclef Jean & Chance the Rapper)
To be honest, we haven’t paid the closest attention to VIC MENSA over the last couple years, but this track is bringing him back onto our radar in a big way. On “SHELTER,” VIC teams up with the legendary Wyclef Jean to provide his soulful, raspy vocals while Chance the Rapper lends a deep and subdued verse. This track is strong & powerful, while still having a laid back vibe.

We Want Our Clubs Back – Me & My Toothbrush
Since discovering Me & My Toothbrush, we’ve been ecstatic about nearly every song that they’ve created. If you’re sold on the more modern combination of funk and house, this one (and all of Toothbrush) is for you!

On Read – Lucky Daye (ft. Tiana Major9)
Soulful R&B artist, Lucky Daye, has blasted onto the map over the last couple years doing songs with Leon Bridges, SG Lewis, Big Freedia, and more. On his first track of 2021, Lucky Daye crafts a sensual, relaxed track about the feeling we can all relate to of being “left on read” by someone you’re into. The guitars and bass in this song make it quite the vibe.

No More Looking Back – Idris Elba & Inner City (ft. Steffanie Christi’an)
Actor, DJ, and model, Idris Elba, and iconic Detroit based, Inner City, team up with IP’s favorite Defected Records to make a future dance floor hit. This track will definitely make you dance!

Gang Signs – Freddie Gibbs (ft. ScHoolboy Q)

Ain’t Nothin’ Going On But The Rent – Kevin McKay & Phebe Edwards
Scottish producer and DJ, Kevin McKay, stays releasing some of the most fun and enjoyable vocal-forward house music around. “Ain’t Nothin’ Going On But The Rent” comes in with some perfectly punching drums and bass, and is tied together by the vocal. Throw this one in your workout playlist, you won’t regret it!

Who Are You? (Chris Lake Remix) – Miane
If you love tech-house, you know Chris Lake is running the show these days, with every release he puts out shooting to the #1 spot on Beatport. For this remix, Lake threw some of his signature sounds in the mix as well as switching up the bass to make things extra danceable and bouncy. We can’t wait to hear one this in the clubs!

Breathe – Dam Swindle (ft. Nikki O)
Iconic House music duo Dam Swindle and Soul/Gospel singer Nikki O, known best for her work with Moodymann, collab for a dreamy house track that will be sure to get and keep you grooving. “Breathe” will be the A side to their new EP Spice Rum coming soon.

SAY LESS – PAWSA
We love when a producer puts a 2021 twist on an early 2000’s throwback, and PAWSA did just that in an epic way with “SAY LESS.” This one is pretty hard and fast with a fairly tricky beat, without being too busy. His sampling of ATC’s “All Around The World” really ties the track together with some melodic moments and a dose of nostalgia!

Album Subconsciously – Black Coffee
We’ve known Black Coffee’s newest album was going to be amazing since he has been releasing singles from it consistently over the last few months. However, after listening through the album, we are blown away by the mature production and songwriting that make this album a gem. The South African DJ and producer has been around for a long time and still manages to push boundaries with his music. Some of our favorite tracks from the album are “Ready For You (ft. Celeste),” “10 Missed Calls (ft. Pharrell Williams & Jozzy),” & “Never Gonna Forget (ft. Diplo & Elderbrook).”

EP Miloe on Audiotree Live – Miloe
As huge fans of Miloe ever since he released his Greenhouse EP last year, we were super excited to see him release a live EP featuring many of the songs we’ve come to love from the budding young artist. There’s a little confusion over if this is actually new or if it was done last year, but either way it’s definitely worth a listen!

Album Midnight Swim – Steve Darko
Steve Darko’s long awaited debut album is here! “Midnight Swim” is as true to the DirtyBird style as it gets: goofy, fun, and as danceable as they come. Ranging from some deeper-feeling tunes to tech house bangers, this one is trippy and fun throughout its entirety. We can’t wait to see what else Steve Darko puts together this year! Some of our favorites include “Smooth Like Butter,” “How Many Times (ft. Claude Von Stroke),” and “Dominical.”

And some more tracks that stood out this week:
