The Divine Chord – The Avalanches (ft. MGMT & Johnny Marr)
Off The Avalanches new album, We Will Always Love You, “The Divine Chord” is a euphoric and laid back musical journey lifted up by the assistance of experimental indie rock group MGMT & legendary guitarist for the Smiths’ Johnny Marr. This song has a great feel to it and is a good example of the power of The Avalanches. (Rest of Album covered below)
Tequila Shots – Kid Cudi
The Man on the Moon is back. With a nice, long dose of classic-esque Cudi, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, is a wonderful album that feels like a sweet mix of MOTM & MOTM2. As the second track of the album, “Tequila Shots” has a dark, spacey beat and contains some of Cudder’s iconic humming and emotional writing. (Rest of Album covered below)
Time – SG Lewis (ft. Rhye)
Two rising artists team up for a fun, fast moving, funkified track. Electronic artist, SG Lewis, fuses his upbeat and unique electronic sounds with Rhye’s beautiful vocals and songwriting. “Time” has a disco tinge that makes it both easy to listen to and a very danceable track.
Walk With A Big Stick – Foster the People
Man do we love us some FTP. Mark Foster and his band released a wonderful, new 6-track EP that combines the classic Foster style with some new pieces and sounds. The leading track of the EP, “Walk With A Big Stick,” is a groovy, rock song with some vocals that are reminiscent of the Beach Boys (one of Foster’s big inspirations. (Rest of Album covered below)
13th Century Metal (Michael Kiwanuka Mix) – Brittany Howard
Brittany Howard’s solo project has released a set of remixes following her most recent album, Jaime. Here we get an awesome mix of her track “13th Century Metal” by the rock guitarist and songwriter Michael Kiwanuka who you might know from his song, “Cold Little Heart,” which is the theme of HBO’s Pretty Little Lies. It’s very laid back and quite a vibe.
ME N U (Gene Farris Remix) – CID & Riddim Commission
Tech house legend, Gene Farris, brings us a banging dance floor ready remix of CID and Riddim Comission’s “Me N U” which features a repeating sample from the early 2000’s song “Me & U” by Cassie. This remix has a really nice beat, heavy rolling bass, and a super catchy vocal. Play this at any dance party and some nostalgic-feeling house tunes!
Album Man on the Moon III: The Chosen – Kid Cudi
(Continued) Bless up for the return of our moon man. This album is an impressive feat after a slew of hit and miss albums and tracks over the last many years. Kid Cudi moves back to his amazing classic sounds with this album which includes some great features from artists like Skepta, Pop Smoke, & Phoebe Bridgers. Some of our favorite tracks include “Show Out (ft. Skepta & Pop Smoke)” & “The Pale Moonlight.”
Album i can’t go outside – Channel Tres
If you love Channel Tres, you know that he has been paving a new road for blending house and hip-hop. This album has more of a hip-hop feel while maintaining mellow house grooves throughout. Our favorites on the album were “Skate Depot” and “take your time” which features Tinashe, but we’d suggest giving the entire album a listen through from the beginning!
Album We Will Always Love You – The Avalanches
(Continued) We’ve been waiting for this full album release for a while now and it definitely does not disappoint. With their laid back R&B mixed with electronic synths and vibes, The Avalanches have created a unique sound that feels magical and relaxing. With features from Blood Orange, MGMT, Leon Bridges (x2!!!), Jamie xx, Sampha the Great, and more, this album is definitely worth a listen through. Some of our other favorite tracks are “We Will Always Love You,” “Ghost Story Pt. 2.”
EP In The Darkest Of Nights, Let The Birds Sing – Foster the People
(Continued) As Foster the People’s first big, multi-track release since 2017’s Sacred Hearts Club, this new EP is a refreshing and fun Foster that we love. With fun guitar riffs and vocal harmonies, In The Darkest Of Nights, Let The Birds Sing, is a wonderful EP that is guaranteed to make you feel good. Some of our other favorite tracks are “Cadillac” & “Your Heart Is My Home.”
EP The Answer – Chris Lake & Armand Van Helden
House music veterans Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden come together for one of the most anticipated collaborations of the year. Lake has always admired the work of Helden, and upon meeting they chose to come together for what turned into, The Answer. The EP has noticeable influence by both artists, with complex baselines, tricky hi-hat patterns, and layers of funky synths that make this one really stand out. Our favorites were the cover track as well as “Dubai Dublin” which has a light and funky house vibe.
EP Village Days – Terrace Martin
Terrace Martin has been releasing a ton of music over these last couple years and we are here for it. On his new EP, Village Days, Terrace brings us 7 funky tracks featuring a ton of great talent. It’s Terrace’s classic funky hip hop beats mixed with some wonderful Jazz. Some of our favorite tracks include “Neighborhood (ft. Kent Jamz & Nick Grant),” “Money Up (ft. Rexx Life Raj),” & “Alway on My Mind (ft. Alex Isley).”
EP Her Revolution / His Rope – Burial, Four Tet, & Thom Yorke
This is a pairing that we did not see coming, but are extremely pleased about. Radiohead frontman, Thom Yorke, hooks up with legendary electronic artist, Four Tet, to bring us two tracks that are ambient, soulful, and spaced out. Both being trippy and emotional, “Her Revolution” and “His Rope” are definitely worth a listen.
EP Covers – James Blake
We forkin love James Blake here at IP. His vocals and songwriting are enough to make anyone weep. On his new Covers EP, James takes on the songs of many incredible artists like Frank Ocean, Billie Eilish, and Joy Division. Some of our favorites are “when the party’s over,” “Godspeed,” and “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.”
EP On My Mind (Remixes) – Diplo & Sidepiece
If you heard the original masterpiece of “On my Mind” then you see why it was remixed by so many legendary artists! This remix EP features already-released remixes from MK, Purple Disco Machine, and Do you Dance?, but was released with an added remix by Ferrek Dawn that is a more clubby tech house style remix. The PDM remix is one of Infinite Purple’s all time favorites, especially if you love disco-style house!
