Read all the way through or make your way to the bottom for the full Spotify playlist of our Friday discoveries.
Warrior – Aaron Childs
Sounding like a new age Jimi Hendrix, Aaron Childs brings us a fresh, new track that brings in his classic rock guitar riffing and light but powerful vocals. The fun, Thundercat-sounding bass line keeps the groove going strong throughout this song. Keep an eye on Aaron Childs as he continues to grow musically.
The Answer – Chris Lake & Armand Van Helden (ft. Arthur Baker & Victor Simonelli)
All-time House legends, Chris Lake and Arman Van Helden, come together for one of the most-anticipated dance music collaborations of the year. “The Answer” is the cover track of their upcoming EP that goes by the same name and is set to be released December 11th.This track samples Blind Truth’s “Why Can’t We See,” a magnetic and funky disco tune from 1991 that preaches togetherness and love amongst us as people, a perfect message for the world today. The track has some really clean percussion and some nicely washed-out funky synths, making it a digestible listen on or off of the dancefloor.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – James Blake
James Blake is an angel. His voice and piano playing are enough to make anyone feel some heavy emotion. On this track, he croons about seeing his love for the first time which we can assume to be about his beautiful girlfriend Jameela Jamil. This song feels like an instant classic to be played at weddings for time to come.
Weekends – Classixx & Local Natives
We love a good collab here at IP and on this track we get two fun artists fusing their sounds for an awesome track. Indie-electronic duo Classixx team up with indie rock group Local Natives to bring us a fun, summer feeling song with a house bass line and sweeping synths. This one will definitely make you wish for the weekend.
Actin’ Fake – CID (ft. Charlie Vox & Cinélu)
Get ready to see this one topping the charts because “Actin’ Fake” is an absolute dance floor banger. The beat from this one really punches, and the vocal carries so much attitude that you can’t forget it. We can’t wait to hear this (or play this for you) on the dancefloor!
See You There – Castelle & Keiynan Lonsdale
“See You There” is a fun and vibey indie-house track that has that summertime feel-good vibe we all know and love. The beat is clean and punchy below some washed out chymes and some fun and funky guitar chords that really make this song a danceable one. Hoping to see more of Castelle & Keiynan very soon!
Alive – PAX & Gorgon City
“Alive” is another track we’ve been looking forward to, bringing together the front-running duo on the scene right now, Gorgon City, and house and techno remix legends, PAX, known for their epic club-ready remix of “Electric Feel” by MGMT. This one is a definite tech house banger but is definitely easier on the ears than others. Starting with a punching kick and some horns, this one feels dark and techno-ey in the best way. The vocal is mystical and mysterious, and the drop hits you in the noggin out of nowhere. Play this one at your next dance party!
chinatown – Bleachers (ft. Bruce Springsteen)
Powerhouse producer & songwriter Jack Antonoff’s band Bleachers brings us a warm feeling new song featuring the magical & legendary Bruce Springsteen. It’s an interesting & somewhat surprising pair, but once you listen you’ll understand how much sense it makes for these two to team up. The classic Bleachers sound blends seamlessly with the singing and emotions of The Boss to make one beautiful song.
Album Good News – Megan Thee Stallion
All hail queen Megan Thee Stallion. The iconic rapper released a brand new album that is amazing start to finish. Not only are her beats great including some A+ rap samples, but her flow is at an all-time high putting her at the top of the rap world. The craziest thing about this album is that, although she has a slew of impressive featured artists mixed throughout, she is the best part of every single song. Some of our favorite tracks (was hard to narrow down) are “Shots Fired,” “Freaky Girls (ft. SZA),” “What’s New,” & “Go Crazy (ft. Big Sean & 2 Chainz).”
EP Friend Goals – Tank and the Bangas
Fabulous Jazz/R&B/Rock group Tank and the Bangas continue to get better and better. On their new EP, Friend Goals, Tank and the Bangas recruit a bunch of awesome artists to feature. This EP is extremely well made with its laid back beats and groovy singing layered with all sorts of strings, horns, and vocal melodies. Our favorite tracks are “Fluff (ft. Duckwrth & Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah),” “TSA (ft. PJ Morton),” & “Friend Goals (ft. Pell).”
