IP’s New Music Friday – September 18, 2020

Welcome back to another week of Infinite Purple’s New Music Friday where we dig through the week’s new tracks to bring you the songs that standout!

Read all the way through or make your way to the bottom for the full Spotify playlist of our Friday discoveries.

Emergency – Sofi Tukker (ft. Novak & YAX.X)
Sofi Tukker’s latest release, “Emergency”, is a high-energy dance-floor banger that is guaranteed to get your body grooving! We love a good house track around here that is simple and precise, and this one hits the spot. You may have heard this track in ST’s daily DJ sets, but it’s finally been released on streaming for the world to dance to.

Gotta Move On – The Sponges
The time has come for this long-awaited release from The Sponges! Gotta Move On is the modern funky house remix of the beloved disco hit “Funky Town” by Lipps Inc. that the world has needed! These guys are no strangers to blending funk and house, but this one has definitely changed the game.

Vertical – JR JR
“Vertical” is JR JR’s second release of the year and we’re truly out of our seats with this one. The vocals are dreamy and happy and the beat just makes you wanna dance, what more can you ask for?

Hot Stuff – Kygo x Donna Summer
Ever since Kygo released his game-changing “Sexual Healing” remix back in 2013, he has established himself as one of the top remix artists in the world. Following up on his other recent remix/re-releases like “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “Higher Love,” Kygo takes on a Donna Summer hit with “Hot Stuff.” This song is guaranteed to get your next dance party popping like its the 1970s.

Holy – Justin Bieber (ft. Chance the Rapper)
The decision to include the Biebs on here is not taken lightly. This new track, featuring an on-point verse from the always amazing Chance the Rapper, has a stripped back vibe that we don’t often get from the new age pop star. “Holy” is refreshing & laid back making it a perfect song for a day at the beach or a nice drive in the car.

Message to the People – Horse Meat Disco (ft. Amy Douglas & Dames Brown)
Who said disco is dead? Because it is very much alive with this track. Horse Meat Disco once again delivers a funky disco anthem that has everything it needs to be a worldwide hit. “Message to the People” features powerful vocals by Amy Douglas and Dames Brown and remixes by the Chicago great Kelly G and remix maestro Danny Krivit that add different layers to an already flawless song. If you’re still unclear what the message is, try listening again but louder.

Album Chasing the Golden Hour, Pt. 3 – GRiZ
Griz has been funkifying our lives for many, many years now and he always seems to be improving his sound. In the newest piece of his Chasing the Golden Hour journey, Griz brings us a 9-track album that is both dancey and laid back at the same time. Songs like “Won’t Be Gone Long,” “Sweet,” & “Floating,” make this album the perfect soundtrack to your next sunset dance party.

Album ALICIA – Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys has given us the album we all needed at the moment. On ALICIA, the prolific singer brings us a 15-song musical gift featuring a slew of amazing R&B singers like Miguel, Khalid, Tierra Whack, & Sampha. Some of our favorites are “Me x 7 (ft. Tierra Whack),” “Show Me Love (ft. Miguel),” & “Time Machine.”

Album Why Do We Shake in the Cold? – Elderbrook
Elderbrook, who you might know from his hit track with Camelphat “Cola,” has released an emotional new electronic album that fuses house music with indie rock, pop, and funk. It’s an awesome new sound that we are excited to continue listening to. Some favorites are “My House,” “Something About You (ft. Rudimental),” & “Back to my Bed.”

Album Music Makes Me High/Take Care in Your Dreaming – The Avalanches
Melbourne based group The Avalanches are here to give us something to dance to once again. They seamlessly blend House and disco to give us something that makes us feel nothing short of…well…”high”. The Avalanches haven’t released a studio album since “Wildflower” in 2016 so we are crossing our fingers for one in the not so distant future. We highly recommend you check out their past 2 albums “Wildflower” and “Since I Left You” where you’ll find a little bit of everything on the genre spectrum.
